This Is Why Your Adventure Bike Feels Hard to Control
A big adventure bike can feel heavy and difficult to control off-road — but sometimes the problem isn’t the weight of the bike. It’s what’s happening between the throttle, clutch and rear wheel. A lot of riders are constantly going from drive straight into engine braking, then back into drive again. That constant drive-drag-drive-drag can make the bike feel unsettled, especially on tight trails and loose terrain. In this video I explain why simply letting the bike roll can make such a big difference. We cover:
Why engine braking can make the bike feel heavier
How rolling can make tight trails easier
Why momentum matters more than constant throttle
How reducing engine braking can help the bike stay balanced in sand
Why the front can dig or wash when the bike slows abruptly
How to use the clutch to choose when you want drive, engine braking, or neither
Sometimes you don’t need more throttle. Sometimes you don’t need more braking. Sometimes you just need to let the bike move. Drive when you need drive. Use engine braking when you need it. But don’t be afraid to let the bike roll.
